NMSOP Reaffirms Pride in Donors, Voluntary Transparency in Ethics Commission Settlement

Albuquerque, NM, August 11, 2025 — New Mexico Safety Over Profit (NMSOP) today reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to transparency and its mission to put the safety of New Mexicans first. 

“Let me be clear:” said Feliz Rael, board member at NM SOP, “both we and our counsel are confident we complied with the word and the spirit of the Lobbyist Reporting Act. Our settlement critically included no admission of wrong doing for that very reason.” 

Rael continued, “We chose not to litigate for two reasons. First, we have nothing to hide and are proud to disclose our donors. They are the people who fight everyday to make our systems safer for all New Mexicans. Second, our fight is with corporations and institutions that put investor profits ahead of safety and wellbeing, not with the Ethics Commission. Litigating would have been an unnecessary use of time and resources for both our organization and for taxpayers.”

NMSOP was founded to ensure that New Mexicans—not corporations—set the standards for safety, accountability, and justice. Trial lawyers stand with us in that mission.

NMSOP’s decision to voluntarily disclose its donor list was deliberate. We don’t take money from corporate front groups, including those funded by for-profit hospital acquisitions. We are powered by real people who believe the justice system should make things better for us all.
